CFI-Kern County is an independent group dedicated to fostering critical thinking and free inquiry in society, and the promotion of science education.
Although independent, the local group is modeled after the Center for Inquiry, a transnational nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that encourates evidence-based inquiry into science, pseudo-science, medicine and health, religion, ethics, secularism and society.
Local activities are planned including educational forums on a wide variety of topics. Special programs will encourage youth at all educational levels to develop their critical thinking skills, as well as provide an "umbrella" organization for such groups at high-school and college campuses.
